Part one of the course begins by strengthening your capacity to let go. It then takes you on a journey of systematically shedding conditioning. You will let go of identities, no longer trying to be anything you're not, or to win approval, instead discovering what you already are. You will let go of the past, releasing emotional charge from your memories, and ceasing to maintain continuity with the character from your life story. You'll let go of the future, changing forever your relationship with desire and fear, no longer waiting for anything to change. Finally, you'll let go of beliefs, freeing your mind from its conceptual prison and developing a deeper relationship with the unknown. Each of these basic features of selfhood - identities, the past, the future, and beliefs - is held in place by its own kind of mental tension. Part one ends by discovering how, when all these tensions are released, the self as you know it ceases to exist. Part two begins by strengthening your capacity to understand and shift states of consciousness, which is essential for the weirdness to come. Releasing mental tensions leads to a temporary cessation of your sense of self. To make that liberation less temporary, we investigate the basic processes by which you construct a sense of personality, mind, and body. The result is a new experience of selfhood that is non-local and non-dual. We then turn our attention to the habits by which you create your experience of the world, including your sense of space and time. The final steps on the journey are about recognizing the background behind all experience, learning to open your awareness to that which never changes. 'Nothing' is the name we give to this infinite, changeless backdrop behind the many illusions of self and world. Turning into nothing is the goal. Finding out what that means is the journey. This course assumes you have some experience with spiritual practice, and have done some work on yourself on the psychological level as well. Anyone is welcome to boldly jump in, however, provided you understand how radically disorienting many of the exercises can be. You will, after all, be endeavoring to dismantle and deconstruct most of the guideposts you have used to orient throughout your life. Every step on the journey makes new forms of freedom possible. There are good reasons, however, why we tend to limit our own freedom. Some people prefer structure, continuity, predictability, and a sense of solidity, even at the cost of truth and liberation. Freedom is harder to tolerate than most people realize. Basically, it's going to be a pretty wild ride! This course is self-paced, consisting of 10 modules, well over 75 experiential exercises, some of them quite extensive, and a notebook to keep track of your discoveries as you go. Depending on how thoroughly you engage with the material, the course may take anywhere between three months and nine months to complete. It is designed as a solo voyage, but you also have the option of signing up for one-on-one support, via text, throughout the journey. Both the course introduction, and the initial module, on The Capacity to Let Go, are free for guests visiting the course. You are welcome, however, to peruse the table of contents for each of the remaining course modules. It's probably the best way to get a feel for what happens throughout the journey. This course began when Zara Songull proposed to Jed McKenna that they collaborate on a more advanced course to follow The Unimportant Course. They worked together on the course for two years before his death in 2021. In completing the course, Zara endeavored to remain true to Jed's spirit and his ideas. Although the course is a true collaboration, I have written it as if a single person is speaking to you, using "I" instead of "we". If you're new to this world, you may want to begin with The Unimportant Course, but either can be taken independently of the other. Letting Go of Everything works on many levels at the same time. Even already-advanced students have found that, on each pass through the material, they learn new things and make new discoveries. I hope the same will be true for you!
